The subject matter about polygamy, and the parts about Homestead, a cult like living compound where Rachel the first wife grew up, are somewhat uncomfortable to read.
There are two first-rate twists at the end, the last of which caused me to reread the opening chapters, just to see how well the author had fooled me. I'm sure the story would have got a bit more interesting as it went on, but it was very 'samey', and I am afraid to say, read quite poorly, with pauses in the narrative which spoiled the flow of the story. FREDDIE FOREMAN If you think you know everything about the East End's toughest gangsters, think again. Nobody really cares who killed the Blake Nelson, since he's the least interesting person in the whole novel.
It's quite disturbing for me, definitely not a quick light hearted thriller, it's more of a mystery novel. Still on the mend from a turbulent divorce, Jack's investigation into matters of the heart takes him to hidden places no one should ever have to go. Jennifer is also the author of the Black Blade and Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series and the Bigtime paranormal romance series.
Not that I lived in LV, but I've been around the block and I don't think LV natives say stuff like "I'm fixin' for a burrito" ?Bloody, meta, occasionally self-deprecating, and always wickedly entertaining, CURSE OF THE REAPER draws inspiration from the world of slasher films to tell a delightfully devious tale of an actor, the silver screen villain to which he devoted his entire career, and the grip that villain might just have on him in the real world. So I'm expecting some congratulatory comments because if you've followed my reviews, you know I'm all about that <380 pgs LOL. I intentionally read a couple of Christmas mysteries during the Christmas season… and I absolutely loved it.
